Data Releases
- Ontario Creates has released our 2018 film and television production stats. In 2018, Ontario’s film and television industry contributed $1.9 billion to Ontario’s economy and created 37,000 full-time direct and spin-off jobs. Data represents expenditures of all productions using Ontario Creates-administered incentives and services. Click here for the , as well as 2018 datadata from other years.
- Ontario Creates has updated our Open Data Inventory with new Tax Credit Statistics up until the 2018/2019 fiscal year, as well as our Film and Television statistics in CSV format.
Creative Industries Policy and Funding
- The federal Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology completed its and published its report on June 3, 2019. The Committee had 36 recommendations, all of which could have an impact on Canada’s creative industries. Some of the topics included educational fair dealing, whether to attribute first ownership of copyright in cinematic works to particular specific types of creators, and narrowing the radio royalty exemption. - The Broadcasting and Telecommunications Review Panel has delivered its interim report entitled at the end of June 2019. It summarizes key themes emerging from an open call for written submissions and in person consultation activities undertaken since the Panel was appointed a year earlier by the Ministers of Canadian Heritage, and Innovation, Science and Economic Development. The report is structured along the four themes which framed the consultation from the outset, one of which is “Supporting the Creation, Production and Discoverability of Canadian Digital Content”.
